Joel Sonnenberg's Biography:

Joel is a young man whom God has transformed from a lifeless lump of coal into a diamond of rare beauty. God has allowed Joel to beat insurmountable  odds in order to live a life of blessing  and honor.

Burned beyond  recognition at the age of two, when a tractor trailer smashed into his families  car at a toll booth; Joel sustained  an 85 percent burn injury. He has learned to accept his circumstances  and excel beyond  all expectations.  Joel has an authentic  platform  from which to speak to God’s grace, goodness, and love. He proves that the extraordinary is  within everyone’s  grasp.

Joel has lived a life of excellence.  Always a leader in student government—Joel was  student body president in high school, and senior class vice-president in  college.  Eagle scout, captain of his soccer team, Olympic torch bearer, Discover  Card  National tribute  award winner, and Citizen of the Year, are just some of his accomplishments. He   has been lauded by governors, senators, and presidents.

Joel has been seen twice on The Today Show, starred in PBS documentaries, seen on 48 hours with Dan Rather, and  appeared on Emmy and Peabody award winning Public Eye with Bryant Gumbel. He has been filmed for Italian  National Television, German  and Dutch-T.V. Joel has tried his hand at acting-and can be seen October 17 on PAX-TV’s Sue Thomas FBEye. He has appeared in magazines  and newpapers  throughout the U.S.

Speaking in front of churches, colleges,  youth  events, civic events, and  professional groups, since  high school-Joel is at ease in front of youth and adults alike.

His recent publication is  Joel.

“We have known Joel since he first moved to Montreat 18 years ago. What an incredible boy he was, what an incredible man he has become, due to the grace of God…His story will both stir your heart and forever change you.”—Billy and Ruth Graham

“Joel is an American hero.  Reading his story will renew your sense of the values many Americans have died for- God, country, and family.  True courage is demonstrated in every page.”—Senator Bob Dole

“Joel Sonnenberg’s story  is more than just an uplifting tale of persistence  and achievement.  Rooted in tragedy, it is the story of a family’s love, a boy’s courage…and the resilience of the human spirit….Way to go, Joel!”—Bryant Gumbel

“Joel is a dear friend. His story is truly remarkable. I encourage everyone to read it! Inspiring!!—Coach K, Head Basketball Coach, Duke University

“The dictionary doesn’t have enough adjectives to describe  my love and admiration for Joel Sonnenberg.  To spend time with Joel, whether in his book, in an audience, or over a soda---is to come away a different  person, simply because you’ve been with him.  When I need perspective on my own pain, I call Joel-he is a priceless treasure in Christ’s Kingdom.”—Joni Eareckson Tada

“I highly recommend Joel Sonnenberg as a speaker to youth. His story is one all young people need to hear.  He has overcome some obstacles but has remained optimistic, confident, and filled with faith.  I believe today’s youth need to hear stories of people who are truly heroic rather than simply media created.”---Dr. Jay Kesler, President Emeritus Taylor University, Former President-Youth For Christ

hey guys i didnt put this on here to make everyone feel sorry for Joel but to show you that we often complain to much about what we have but when we actually take the time to look past ourselves and see the world we see that someone else may have it a lot worse. its funny though, Jo el doesnt see himself as a victim he sees himself as a tool for God to use to help other people. that, my friends, is the way we need to look at our lives. i know that i need to change and its going to be difficult but you know what, i refuse to let satan win and make me fall. i WILL change and let God's purpose for me come forth. SATAN YOU LOSE CAUSE I REFUSE!

this is what i want to learn to do someday. i think it looks like alot of fun but it would be really hard. i think someday i might try though. you never know.
